UX & UI Design for Record Union
Record Union is a Stockholm based company focusing on digital distribution of music releases and also a record label with Artist Relations Services. As a Hyper Island student I had a three months internship period which I did as a UX & UI Designer at Record Union.
Client: Record Union | Spring 2017
I was working in the Design Team, we were three designers and also the Product Owner and the Head of Platform. I also collaborated with the Developers (mainly with a Front-end Developer).
Platform
Record Union's main business is the digital distribution of music releases. They have a platform for the artists to upload their music to be distributed for the major music player services such as Spotify, iTunes, Tidal etc. We as a Design Team were working on the new platform which we were designing from the scratch. I had my own parts of the platform to design the UX and UI for (e.g. Sign Up, Log In, User Profile Settings, Subscriptions, Payment and Payout).
Prototypes
I made these wireframe layouts using Sketch and prototypes using InVision for the web version of the platform.
Work Process
I went through the user journey stories assigned to me on ProductBoard that the Product Owner had written. I questioned he's solutions if needed and offered my own perspective and solutions, we would discuss how to make the user stories better. I did laptop research on similar and other digital services and user journeys that exist. The biggest part of the job was to make wireframes (pen & paper skectching and using Sketch) and prototypes (using InVision) for desktop and mobile views. I also implemented UI designs made by Head of Design onto my designs. Every designer had a chance to present their designs once a week for the team and improve the designs based on the feedback.
Developers worked in two weeks sprints so our job was tied to that. After I had finalised my prototypes I would go them through with the developers and kept communicating with the Front-end Developer through his process. The platform was not published yet when my internship came to an end.
This internship was part of Digital Business studies at Hyper Island in Stockholm, Sweden.
